Recently, China Institute of Atomic Energy (hereinafter referred to as CIAE) and Dongfang Electric Corporation (hereinafter referred to as DEC) signed the Joint Engineering and Procurement Contract for Four Main Heat Exchangers of the CFR600 Demonstration Fast Reactor Project, marking the developing of the four main heat exchangers for CFR600 Demonstration Fast Reactor Project has shifted from the R&D stage to the detailed engineering stage. This is one more breakthrough of DEC in the development of nuclear power business arm.
The CFR600 Demonstration Fast Reactor is a sodium-cooled fast neutron breeder reactor in the fourth-generation nuclear power technology. It plays a key role in the three-step development plan of China's nuclear power industry, namely “Thermal Reactor – Fast Reactor – Fusion Reactor”.
Since 2010, DEC has dedicated in R&D of key equipment for fast reactor and closely cooperated with CIAE to continuously improve and upgrade the technology for its actual engineering realization. Up to now, DEC has successively undertaken the “R&D Service and Testing & Verification Service Contract for Four Main Heat Exchangers of Demonstration Fast Reactor Project” and “Supply Contract of Steam Generator of Demonstration Fast Reactor Project”. With the signing of this Joint Engineering and Procurement Contract, for the first time, DEC has realized the integration of R&D, engineering design and manufacturing of key equipment in nuclear island for nuclear power projects.
The signing and implementation of the related contracts for the CFR600 Demonstration Fast Reactor Project signifies the advancement of DEC nuclear business from the third generation nuclear technology up to the fourth generation nuclear technology, and also marks the successful expansion of DEC from the manufacturing to the R&D and engineering design for the key equipment in nuclear island of nuclear power industry.
