On January 6th 2019, the first unit of STELCO Fifth Power Development Project (50MW) in Maldives was successfully fulfilled the synchronization process.
STELCO Fifth Power Development Project with the total installed capacity of 50MW is located in Hulhumale island, Maldives. It is the largest power plant under-construction by DEC in Maldives. And it is also one of the major projects under "the Belt and Road" Initiative.
This project will install six sets of 9MW diesel engine generator and two sets of sea water desalination system by using the engine’s waste flue gas to produce 1000 tons fresh water for each unit on a daily basis. This project will provide sufficient electricity to satisfy the demand of consumption for economic and social development in the greater Male region, and is also a certain power supply guarantee of power transmission to this area. And it will supply fresh water for local residents, tourists and industry as well.
Other units will be put into commercial operation soon in the following days.
